Hi! I want to work on myself, my attachment issues, and generally I want to be more reliant on myself. I am an independent person but sometimes I feel like I’m missing something or someone in my life.

Looking for books about being able to be enough by myself, not needing external things to feel fulfilled. I prefer philosophy (hopefully something not that dense to digest) and psychology books!

Thank you so much in advance.

    1. Philosophy – To preface, I am not now nor have I ever been religious, but reading *Tao Te Ching* by Lao Tzu was a truly profound experience for me. I felt that it helped me piece so many things together which I was so close to already, but didn’t quite have within my grasp yet. Plus the way it’s structured is SUPER easy to take frequent breaks to reflect and/or take notes along the way.

Psychology – *The Upside of Stress: Why Stress is Good for You, and How to Get Good at It* by Kelly McGonigal is a book that my sister who is a licensed psychologist and practicing marriage and family counselor absolutely swears by (not for her practice specifically, was just qualifying the suggestion lol). Not exactly along the lines you requested, but I offer this one because I think my first suggestion is the best one I personally could have given as directly relevant to your post haha.

How to Stubbornly Refuse to Make Yourself Miserable About Anything by Albert Ellis.

Ellis was frustrated by the slow progress of psychotherapy and tried applying Stoic philosophy in a clinical context. The result was rational emotive behavior therapy, which is still in use in itself and as a component of cognitive behavioral therapy.
