I am so tired of going to the bookshop and seeing loads of books out on the stands that i’ve seen people talk about online. I always think “well i need to make sure its actually good and not just a booktok book” and so i google the book and all the reviews are good and it even has more than 4 stars on goodreads so i buy the book and read it. The book is fine but not nearly as good as i was promised, this has happened maybe twice but i keep looking for books but don’t buy any out of booktok fear. Only after i’ve bought and or read the book do i magically find the nonbooktok people saying how bad the book is that i just read 😭. Please help me. I just want to read a real page turner that makes me excited to pick up the book and find out what happens. A series would be great, I want to read a book with thought-out characters and an in-depth world around them as well as twists. I don’t want a book full of blah followed by a ridiculous twist at the end that makes no sense and is only for shock factor. I love the hunger games and i just recently read sunrise on the reaping and naturally i am trying to recreate that thrill that they give me. Perhaps my standards are too high and just nothing compares to the hunger games. Someone help me please.
PSA: I would like to make clear that this is not meant to be hateful toward anyone who enjoys booktok books, they just aren’t for me

I’ve just been avoiding reading anything published after 2012 and I’ve enjoyed it. Go read some classics or classic series!
So you liked Hunger Games and you’re looking for a good book.
If you want something else dystopian with a woman protagonist it’s hard to go wrong with A Handmaid’s Tale.
