To keep it short, I got into the world of fanfiction about midway through high-school and haven't picked up a physical book (other than a few graphic novels) in years. Due to my mental health going downhill, my therapist recommended I go to the library as a way to get out of the house, and maybe check out some books while I'm there.

More context, I'm autistic and never really got out of children's/young adult chapter books. I read things like Warrior Cats and Land of Stories in high school. I don't really know of any good books in my age group (college) besides the majorly popular booktok ones. I can read above college level, so no worries about my literacy.

So, I would like some recommendations for young adult/adult level books in fiction, sci-fi, action and adventure, magic type vibes (lgbtq+ suggestions welcomed!). Chapter books/novels and graphic novels preferably. Not a fan of horror or non-fiction. Not a huge fan of romance either, but not opposed to it. 100% no smut.

Love things like magic, time travel/powers, superheroes, good vs evil, traveling to new mystical worlds, dystopia, and really anything that's different from our normal world.

List of things I've read and enjoyed:
Warrior Cats/Erin Hunter chapter books, the Pegasus Series, Land of Stories series, books by Matthew Cody, Timestoppers by Carrie Jones, The Testing, the Unwanteds, etc. (I would add more but I don't remember, I had to look up half of these).

Thanks in advance! ( I did not keep it short :/ )

    1. Hey, when you say you mostly stick with YA stuff is it because you can’t handle higher level or just prefer not to? Would it be better to have it read TO you (audiobook), or to have an audiobook and follow along with a text version? Would that allow you to handle more ‘adult’ oriented books? I’d highly recommend looking into Litrpg/progression type books. If your library has a Libby/CloudLibrary/Hoopla account then you can get free audiobooks/text books through the app, and if so there are several free options for these types of books. They are very low stress, power-trip fantasies. They can range from getting stuck in a game world, to being reborn into another world with magic/systems/etc. Also, they are not terribly ‘high-brow’ literature. To me they are the potato chips of literature, easy to consume, light snacks with very little stress involved. Check out some stuff like He Who Fights Monsters, The Good Guys, The Bad Guys, Ripple System, Cradle, Noobtown, and so many others.
