I love overly philosophical, pretentious, sad books (think cormac McCarthy, no longer human, the bell curve, etc.) but they can get so unfun to read after a while. I’d love a nice feel good book, but one that still has an important message aside from just “here’s a nice fun story to make you feel good.” I don’t love when books waste my time because I’m a bit of a slow reader, but I want something that’s not just “society sucks, everyone dies eventually, so yeah.” I want something that’ll make me smile but is still an affecting and impactful read.
