I’m including some of the books and podcasts that I’ve read in these categories that I’ve really enjoyed:
1) The Terror by Dan Simmons
2) Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
3) Old Gods of Appalachia
4) The White Vault
5) Ararat by Christopher Golden
6) Catacombs by Jeremy Bates
I’m looking for otherworldly or supernatural dark forces, suspense, horror, but also an element that it can be fought against.

* *The Fisherman* by John Langan — cosmic horror meets grief, with enough fight to keep hope alive
* *A Lush and Seething Hell* by John Hornor Jacobs — Southern Gothic plus madness, beautifully written
* *The Only Good Indians* by Stephen Graham Jones — revenge, spirits, dread that builds like rot
* *Those Across the River* by Christopher Buehlman — since you liked him already, this one’s leaner, spookier, and soaked in Southern atmosphere
* *The Ballad of Black Tom* by Victor LaValle — Lovecraftian horror with teeth, plus the underdog has bite
All have that mix of dread and defiance—evil’s real, but so is the resistance
You’ve got some killer picks already! Based on what you’ve liked, I’d definitely recommend:
* ***Those Across the River*** **by Christopher Buehlman** — since you liked *Between Two Fires*, this one’s a must. Southern Gothic to the core with creeping dread and a dark historical edge.
* ***The Ballad of Black Tom*** **by Victor LaValle** — cosmic horror, Lovecraftian but with bite, and a powerful sense of justice.
* ***Blackwood*** **by Michael Farris Smith** — deeply Southern, eerie atmosphere, with a slow-burn supernatural force haunting the landscape.
