I just finished Lonesome Dove after so many here had recommended it as "the best book they've ever read" and I have to say I'm soooooo disappointed 😞
Don't get me wrong, I genuinely enjoyed parts of it, but in NO way was it as good as people make it sound like. There were too many unnecessary side stories, long boring parts I just had to drag through and a really shitty ending imo. Also many of the story lines I had to read through were just unfinished. Like wtf?

Glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t get the hype. I kept wondering if I was reading the same book everyone said was so great.
Im about 225 pages in. Its enjoyable i guess but yeah seems way overhyped
Just wondering, what would you consider the best book you’ve ever read then?
The whole point is the “unnecessary side stories” being the main story. Lots of books like that people find highly enjoyable and a lot of them are westerns.
The whole time I was like, wow Clara is the only one with a single lick of sense and everyone woulda been a lot better off to listen to her.
I think it might have been judged against the content of its time; westerns where the good guys always win and the expansion was romanticized. In context of that I appreciate its relatively more nuanced approach to the political and racial climate. But, in a vacuum (which is how I read it) it was like a regular good book but not mind blowing.
Respect the opinion but yeah kind of a tough take. That’s an all time great book.
I feel similar. I just didn’t care for it.
Yes. Could not agree more!
Yikes
