I just bought the 2013 Collins Classics edition of ‘Heart of Darkness’ and noticed something strange. At the end of the book, there’s a glossary, but half of the listed words are common English words like ‘but,’ ‘gem,’ ‘want,’ ‘sensible,’ ‘folly’ etc. While there are some less common words and some with double meanings as well, many nautical terms, which are less familiar to most readers I assume, are missing. Does anyone know why these particular words were chosen for the glossary?
