HONEST Books about chattel slavery, whiteness, and it’s impact on race relations today

I'm going to be honest I don't have the best vocabulary and I have trouble retaining information when I read. Ideally I'd like a book that reiterates points over and over. I'm interested in learning more about the atlanic slave trade and the Americas post chattel slavery. Which books would you recommend? Thanks in advance 🙂
