I’m a sucker for books by Blake Crouch. I’ve read Dark Matter, Recursion, and Upgrade and the last two are essentially the first with slight variations. The writing is pretty simple and sometimes borderline cringeworthy. But man do I fly through his books, he knows how to set a pace.

*Rabbits* by Terry Miles. The prose is amateurish, the chapters are all written in a cliche cliffhangery kind of way, and the characters lack a lot of meaningful development. I like to refer to it as the PCP-fueled lovechild of a scavenger hunter and a conspiracy theorist.
But I’ll be damned if the actual plot didn’t suck me WAY IN with absolutely no remorse. Not everybody will vibe with it the way that I did, but the intentionally confusing storyline combined with the super interesting base plot just had me FIENDING for more. It was like a drug for my brain from the get-go and I struggled mightily to put it down despite its many flaws. I actually think the sequel *The Quiet Room* did a great job of tidying up some of the messier plot points, and I’m anxiously awaiting the third book which is yet unannounced.

I have to tell you, the back of the book synopsis for Ken Liu’s **Dandelion Dynasty** did *not* excite me – in fact I really only read it because reviewers I respect were so positive on it.
Now, it’s a Top 3 series all-time for me.

*Dungeon Crawler Carl* has no business being as good or as emotional as it is for such a goofy premise. Unforgivably excellent.
