Dan Brown – Robert Langdon series
Lee Child – Jack Reacher series
Clive Cussler – Dirk Pitt series
James Patterson – Alex Cross series
James Rollins – I forgot if his books have the same protagonist, but I remember that The Judas Strain is one of my favorite books as a kid.. I think I also read The Doomsday Key and Deep Fathom. Can you suggest other James Rollins books that you like?
Also, there's one book that I forgot the title but I want to read again. All I remember is that the antagonist got rich through poaching. He hunted bulls for their horns. He would plant mines in a huge area, and using helicopters with guns, he would herd the bulls into the mines so that their legs would get blown off.. they would then climb down from the helicopter to hack the horns off the bulls faces while they are still alive and screaming with pain.. I think he's some kind of African.
There's also another book.. I can only remember the ending. I think it's about some sort of virus that almost devastated the world.. and the ending of the book brought the protagonists to Angkor Wat in Cambodia.. The MC's brain was sort of rewired to go to a cave.. and there she saw the previous carriers of the virus or something.. they were "sleeping" in the cave.. but they were alive. They've been there for years, even decades. I think they were described as translucent, where you can see their organs.. but they were alive, just sleeping.. and she was supposed to lay there with the others and become like them until.. I don't know what they were waiting for. I think eventually they will save humanity from the plague.
Please help me, thank you!

That`s an interesting mix to start with.
If you want to stay lightweight and on the “not too deep” side of things, try the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher or the Pendergast series by Preston & Child.
When you feel ready for something smarter, deeper, more haunting / gripping, give Scrublands by Chris Hammer or Shangri-La by Ivan Ertlov a go.
