I was staying up late at night watching a documentary on Margaret Mitchell for a college course. One of the options was to pick a documentary, and it could be based off a person. I chose her since I was reading Gone With The Wind at the time.
As I was staring at my laptop and taking notes on the documentary, I heard in the video that Mitchell wrote a jazz age story set in the 1920’. Now THAT I wanted to see. Just replicate the love story from the civil war and we got ourself a winner. Mitchell has such a sense of making great characters and inventing good settings and inner conflicts for her characters.
I have two copies of Gone With The Wind and two copies of the sequel on my bookshelves. In fact, I loved Gone With The Wind so much, I just needed to read the sequel and feel more of these characters that I’ve been missing. It’s such a popular book- and maybe one of the only classics I loved (asides from a select few.)
And as I was watching the documentary, I learned that she was such a great journalist and had good story telling skill. It’s such a shame that she never wrote more books.
