Hi, so I have always connected to my father-in-law (late 60s) through discussing what sci-fi or thriller books we have been reading. Unfortunately he has suffered a few head injuries and is starting to really struggle. Recently he told me that he hasn't been reading any new sci-fi because he's been struggling to understand/related with the characters. He's been getting confused really easily lately and I think that a lot of modern sci-fi themes are just too complicated for him now. He still enjoys the original Stargate and Deep Space 9.
I'm hoping that there are a few books that are closer to 1990/2000' sci-fi but without the sexism and racism that tended to be in those books.
