I have a friend that is coming on vacation with me and I want to get her a book. Usually I would gravitate toward an easy read book a la Lucy foley or Frieda McFadden. But this friend is into older type books like war and peace, grapes of wrath, crime and punishment, etc. Any suggestions on what would be a beach read in that type of genre?? TIA!!

A short steinbeck book or the double by dostoievski. Or the heart is a lonely hunter.
I love pride and prejudice. It’s a good read. Most people know the story. Could be great at the beach.
Get her a gift card and let her pick!
The Awakening by Kate Chopin might be a great choice for this. That’s what I would go with if I wanted to read a classic on the beach.
Chances are, any classic you pick, they will already have read. What does your friend like about the classics? Maybe we can find a hidden gem.
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier!
I’m a bit of a heathen.. I always read Hiaasen or Palahniuk on the beach. I tried Brontë or Conrad or other, (more sophisticated), stuff. But I like creepy, bitchy beach reads.
John Steinbeck East of Eden if she hasn’t read it. Satisfaction guaranteed 👍
