Hey everyone! I’m looking for a book that can give me strength. I am starting my life all over again after some personal crisis. I have done 1 year of nonfiction books filled with motivation, and as much as they have allowed me to be more rational and aware of the things I can improve, I feel my heart still longs for some assurance or boost that helps me just keep pushing. I took to reading last year, and I find it better to invest in books than in people right now, so please share your favourites that helped you along your journey.

For example, in Kite Runner, the character's journey felt relatable to a degree, and I balled my eyes out – it stayed with me and had a lasting effect on me more than most non-fiction/self-help books. The more gut-wrenching, the better, and I’m open to the main protagonist being of any gender, but a male character would be preferred.

Dostoevsky’s works have hope in them, but don’t always end well.

      He was friends with Nietzsche.
He and Nietzsche were like oil and water, but they mixed well anyway.

Both had insight into human nature and appreciated each other.

      Turgenev is good as well.

The Russians are kings of overcoming.

I also appreciate your post. I got set back in 2008 careerwise and in court. $$$$. I still have my health.

I understand how time can run out and goals must change.

      I wish you well.

Les Miserables is a man going through hell to redeem himself. I just finished it early this year and it’s a sweeping, thoughtful yet well-paced epic novel.
