Been trying to get back into reading for a while but can’t find anything that grips me in. I’ve tried Eragon, Where the crawdads sing, some type of murder mystery, and Stephen kinngs misery. Nothing has caught my attention enough where I look forward to a book. Does anyone have any good suggestions?
For context, I’m 29M

the silent patient by alex michaelides pulled me out of a very long reading slump
Short stories got me back into reading when I was having trouble. If you’re interested in giving King another chance, his collection Night Shift is my personal favorite.
“A Short Stay in Hell” by Steven Peck is a recom I got off of here and read it in one night and was SOOO into it and have suggested it to many of my friends. It broke me out of my slump.
maybe try flowers for Algernon
Loved Lee Childs Jack Reacher series. Also if you’re listening to audio George Guidall brings Mitch Rapp and Longmire series to life.
There are some great suggestions already, here’s a couple more that grabbed me from page 1:
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch – If Ocean’s 11 was crossed with Dungeons and Dragons, except with no elves or other magical creatures.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir – Guy wakes up in a strange room with two dead bodies and no memory of who he is and how he got there. Then he figures out that he’s the only hope for humanity’s survival. It’s a fun & twisty ride!
The Haters by Jesse Andrews – two teen boys are talked into dropping everything and taking off on a cross-country trip to see if they can make their band happen.
How to Become the Dark Lord And Die Trying by Django Wrexler – it’s Groundhog Day, but Neo from the Matrix is the main character – except Neo is Agent Smith. Fun, funny, super engaging.
Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey – Extremely grounded sci-fi, filled with action and mysteries.
If you like horror movies of the past 40 years, you might give The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix a shot.
Also going to suggest that you maybe give graphic novels and/or audiobooks a try. There are some great ones of each out there, and the change of format might be just the thing to help you reset your reading habits.
