last year, I went through a really bad breakup that changed the course of my life and made me reevaluate my existing friendships and bonds. i gained weight, I hated myself, and I lost friends. and I think I finally want to be better. give me some nice self-help books I can listen to while I go on walks?

Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Life by Gary John Bishop. The narrator is Scottish so it’s really nice to listen to!

      COMPLEX PTSD:
FROM SURVIVING TO THRIVING by Pete Walker

Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make–and Keep–Friends by Marisa Franco

These two books alone did so much for me when it comes to relationships and identifying toxic behavior within myself and others and how to work through it.

    3. The Four Agreements (simple yet transformational)

Mind Like Clover (very profound essays on lay Zen Buddhist precepts, which are humanistic in nature)

Radical Responsibility (includes journal prompts and exercises, so probably not the best one to just listen to, but it’s full of tools for identifying and changing problematic patterns)

Sounds like last year was a rough one for you. Sending you wishes for a year filled with healing and growth!

*Psychological Commentaries on the Teachings of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky* by Maurice Nicoll.

Ive been reading various types of psychology, self-help, mysticism, and spiritual books for years and this one is by far the most effective I’ve come across.

Feeling Good by David Burns has changed me like I could never imagine, It exposed so many of my mental flaws.
