I’ve been readying the memoirs of Joseph Plumb Martin who fought in the revolutionary war.
It’s incredibly interesting to see what he went through and read about his day to day life which mostly consisted of starving and freezing.
I’ve also read Fighter Pilot by Robin Olds which was an incredibly story of his exploits from WWII to Vietnam.
I suppose I’d also consider All Quiet on the Western Front to be a similar sort of gritty realistic look at what it’s like for soldiers who live in extremis during wartime even if it isn’t literally a memoir.
I’m looking for similar books that focus don’t necessarily glorify war, but focus on the realities of people who have lived through it.
