I'm somewhat new to reading novels (it's been many years since I graduated school). I like the thriller genre.

I first tried the Jack Reacher series. I liked One Shot and Killing Floor, but it was a bit of a stretch. I had to move forward in some sections, hoping that the scene gets referenced later on. Two other books in the series I couldn't grasp very well and dropped them 1/4 of the way. For sure, I now know that the military scene is not for me.

I then switched to the Texas Rangers series. I know James is a co-author, and I've read some comments that it's written with a more casual audience in mind (beginner if I can say it). I am not at all phased by those comments, since I know it can be subjective, and there are different levels of capacity.

I was very happy reading the Texas Rangers series. There weren't too many characters or stories to keep track of. The authors kept referencing scenes from the past, which helped me a few times. I didn't think a Texas Ranger novel would be something I would enjoy, but it's the best I've read from my very limited collection.

I'm looking for recommendations on what to read next, based on that series. Nothing too gory that goes in detail.

You may like Nelson DeMilles stuff. His John Corey books are really good. The Lion, Wildfire, etc
