I am not sure why, but this book has struck a melancholy chord in me similar to “The Road”. I cannot get it out of my head and I don’t know anyone that has read it. I’ve tried to read some comments on Goodreads but they read more like reviews, and that’s not what I’m looking for.
What I am looking for is a discussion or insights that you have had that may help me wrap my head around this perplexing story:
• Do you feel that this is solely about women’s persecution?. If so what about the fact that men are also found in some of the bunkers?
• what catalyst could have happened to create this world? Assuming it is on earth.
• what does the authors background contribute to this story? (Being Jewish and having to flee to Casablanca during WW2)
A little background that may (almost certainly) explain my reaction. I am a father of a 10 year old girl, I have a sister and a gay brother, and work in a largely female dominated field…
