I love books, I love buying new books, I love reading new books… but I've noticed I've been running out of space in my small flat and need to essentially weed my books at home. But I don't know what I should do with the books I no longer want, I don't drive so can't easily or even effectively get them to a charity shop to donate… one option that I've thought about was throwing them in the bins of the building of my flat but that makes me feel like a genuinely terrible person? Would I be a terrible person for throwing out my unwanted books? I'm sorry, I really don't know.

That would make you a terrible person, yes.
Why just put them outside with a shield “for free”? I did this once and most of the books were gone after 2 days
can you keep the ones you don’t want aside for when you do go out and then you can put them for donation?
