She’d like something at the same or similar reading level as Harry Potter. She likes the magic/fantasy aspect, but I think mostly wants to feel like she’s reading “tween” books not kids books. My 12-year-old is about to start on hunger games, but I’m worried that will just be a little too graphic and violent for a nine-year-old.

The Wilderlore series by Amanda Foody. I only read the first book but I thought it was fantastic. My 10yo has listened to the next two as audiobooks and he loved them.

The Mysterious Benedict Society

Tamora Pierce
Percy Jackson series and eragon series
Ranger’s Apprentice as well as a bunch of others like Percy Jackson (and others of Riordan and his imprints) and Mysterious Benedict. I loved Nania as a kid, but my kids didn’t like
Try Amari and the Night Brothers series by BB Alston. It has a young girl trying to find out what happened to her older brother after he goes missing and finds he was involved in the supernatural world.
Also Anna James’ Chronicles of Wetherwhy. It’s similar to Harry Potter in the way that there’s a four category magical grouping. The main character’s twin sister is a rare mage who is able to wield all four seasons of magic and is accepted into a magical school and he discovers a plot to get rid of all mages. The same author’s Pages and Co series is also good.
I really loved the Ink Heart series when I was around that age!
Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander – five books.
Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis – seven books.
A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snickett – Thirteen books.
Percy Jackson series – Rick Rioran – seven books.
