I just found out about Alfred Kinsey, a scientist from the 40's who researched sex by conducting extremely in depth interviews. I'm really intrigued about him and his staff! From what I can tell, a lot of them were bisexual and non-monogamous but only after they started the research- Kinsey was too. Meanwhile, the same people were developing things like conversion therapy, even electroshock therapy. I'm just so interested in how their lives and relationships functioned in such a progressive but simultaneously puritan culture. Like, they really had to learn how to be non judgmental but they were also a product of their time- what was that like!
