Hi friends 🙂
I made it a goal this year to read more! Unfortunately, I am very married to non-fiction books. I want to expand my horizons to fiction books! I'm looking for suggestions for sci-fi books; maybe kindred or adjacent to something like Dune, but I am absolutely open to any sort of sci-fi! Even old books! Thanks y'all!!

*Children of Time* by Adrian Tchaikovsky
[The Sparrow](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/334176) by Mary Doris Russell (says it’s a series, but it can be read as a standalone book). Not perfectly similar to Dune—no intergalactic politics, but I thought it had the same epic feel & the fascinating exploration of a new and alien culture/planet.
*Children of Time* is a trilogy that I have on my tbr, and I’m slowly working toward it. The books are on the thicker side, though.
*Dark Matter* I’m starting next week, hopefully. The story is about a man who is sent to a parallel universe, where his life is different due to a choice he made years prior. To my knowledge it’s a standalone.
*The Martian* is sci-fi I always recommend. The main character is funny, the science is science, not magic in space (though I do love that, too), it’s a standalone, and it’s easy to get through, plus after you can always complement with the movie. I haven’t read _Project Hail Mary_ or _Artemis_ by the same author, but they’re also on my tbr.
If you don’t mind some YA, there’s *Illuminae*. It’s also a trilogy, also on the thicker side, but it’s an epistolary novel told through computer logs, censored emails, camera transcripts, etc. about an event occurring throughout a spaceship that holds a good portion of the human population left.
