Pretty self explanatory title: I do love my litfic but I do love ❤️LOVE❤️ and the books I enjoy don't have enough of it so I NEED to get into romance. I used to get my fill of romance by reading shoujo manga but I'm not interested in manga anymore so I'm getting into romance novels now.
I would prefer something grounded: I'm more interested in reading about regular people falling in love with other regular people rather than affairs involving the rich and their glamorous lives in exotic locations. I'm not against the sappy but I don't want it too sappy. Preferably books that have some focus on building the relationship? Something that doesn't just end the second the lover and the beloved get together. Not YA please, I'm turing 30 this year 🙏 Because I'm a tourist from the litficland I welcome any romance novels that are a little unconventional for the genre standards, maybe a little challenging, but it's not a requierement, I want to get to know the absolute classics too. Thank you in advance ❤️

*We Could Be So Good* by Cat Sebastian – queer historical romance between two journalists (one is better off financially than the other, but not a billionaire or anything)
Greta & Valdin by Rebecca K Reilly – it’s about a biracial Māori family, follows the two adult siblings going through life and their relationships. Very cute and funny but has a litfic quality to it
You might like Emily Henry’s romances? I personally have only read Book Lovers but the characters are very fleshed out and I think they have more depth than some types of romance, which might appeal to you since you like litfic
My personal favorite romance author is Casey Mcquiston who writes queer romances, very fluffy and lighthearted with the right amount of angst.
Emily Henry is a great place to start!
Also, she’s lesser known but Jessica Joyce has two amazing books: You, With a View and The Ex-Vows that are tender and written in a way that really captures the building of relationships.
Courtney Milan and Alyssa Cole are instant-read authors for me!
