I’m looking for books, preferably middle grade or young adult novels, that take place in West Africa between 500-1500 AD.
Something like The Golden Goblet by Eloise Jarvis McGraw (Egypt), A Single Shard) by Linda Sue Park (Korea), Adam of the Road by Elizabeth Gray Vining (England) or The Shadow Spinner by Susan Fletcher (Persia).
Perhaps a Nigerian author or something unfamiliar to my American searching can provide?
Thank you!

I have not read the other books you mentioned, so this may not be at all what you’re looking for. But. If you are open to historical fantasy, Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen is set in 15th century West Africa, and is inspired by West African mythology and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid. I thought it was beautifully written, with a different twist on familiar themes. The bulk of the story centers around the mythology, but there are also slices of historical setting/content that seem well-researched.
