About the world, humanity, the future. I find most 'good' books are full of tragedy. Please suggest me a book that will me feeling better about life than worse. There's already too much devastation on the news and in my feed these days.

Humankind by Rutger Bregman is perfect for this. It’s all about how sensationalism in the news leads us to believe that humanity is a lot worse off than it really is, and has multiple examples from across history that show how people are inherently good. It’s the one nonfiction book I feel comfortable recommending to absolutely anyone. Totally changed my perspective on the world.

If you’re open to very long books, I recommend [The Hands of the Emperor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/af2bba9c-8f41-4a3e-b87a-8532a44ccb67) by Victoria Goddard. It’s a beautifully written slice of life book about the personal secretary to the emperor of the world with a heavy focus on platonic relationships. It’s extremely feel good without feeling superficial.
