Hi! My girlfriend is looking to get into reading again but every time she tries she can’t seem to finish the book. A few months ago i gave her carrie by stephen king to read and she really enjoyed it (and finished it). in the past she has liked books like the hunger games, daisy jones and the six and she also liked penance by eliza clarke. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks so much!

    1. Eliza Clark has a book of short stories (She’s Always Hungry). I find short stories can help me if I’m in a reading rut.

If she likes some darker stories, she might also enjoy Bunny by Mona Awad.

      The Dollmakers by Lynn Buchanan

Don’t Let the Forest In by CG Drews

A.S. King has some great books

    4. Tell her to read more books by Stephen King. If she liked Carrie she may like The Stand. It’s character driven, but long. I read it every few years because it’s like visiting friends you haven’t seen in awhile.

    5. **Verity by Colleen Hoover** – Dark, twisty, and addictive. The suspense keeps readers hooked till the last page.

I also run a weekly newsletter where I share book recommendations like this if you are interested. No Spams! [https://hi.switchy.io/QGsy](https://hi.switchy.io/QGsy)

    6. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid same author as daisy jones) is really good! I also recommend Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, it’s unputdownable.

Have her give Sarah Gailey, Leigh Bardugo and/or Tana French a try. Incredible collections by all three.

If she liked Daisy Jones and the Six, I recommend Mayluna by Kelley McNeil.

    9. Faces in the Crowd by Valeria Luiselli has a female main character living in Manhattan being haunted by the ghost of Mexican poet Gilberto Owen. Luiselli is an award winning author with multiple books.
