Hey everyone! I'm looking for some good romance reads, fantasy or mafia/dark romance especially that have a strong, capable female lead from the start. I'm kind of tired from the whole "naive girl finds her strength through the guy" storyline.
What I really want is a heroine who's smart, strategic, and confident already. Someone people might underestimate, but who's absolutely no damsel. She's sharp, maybe a little ruthless, and totally holds her own.
As for the love interest, I love the feared, broody, dangerous male lead-the kind everyone respects (or fears), but who is completely soft for her.
Even better if
-They're seen as this terrifying power couple from the outside
-People assume he's the one in charge, but actually she's just as strong (if not more) and he knows it.
-There's a moment where he is in danger and she goes full chaos-mode to get him back. I love that reversal.
-They're equals-he trusts her, listens to her, respects her opinions, and she's right a lot. -Around each other, they're goofy and in love, but to the world, they're untouchable.
I'm all for spice, but only if there's real respect and emotional depth in the relationship. I also love enemies-to-lovers or forced proximity vibes.
Would love both popular and indie recommendations, especially books with beautiful writing and well-developed characters.
