Next year, I’ll be working on my graduation thesis, and I already have a general idea of what I’d like to focus on. I’m studying translation, so my thesis needs to be within that field. I have a strong interest in Arabic language and culture (partly because my boyfriend is a native Arabic speaker) and I asked my professor if I could incorporate that into my thesis. She agreed and suggested I look for books originally written in English that contain Arabic influences—whether through vocabulary, phrases, cultural elements, or themes. The idea is to analyze how those aspects have been translated into Romanian.
Could you recommend some books that would fit this criteria? I’m open to a variety of genres (historical, literary fiction, fantasy, romance) as long as they reflect Middle Eastern or North African culture and were originally written in English. I’ve noticed that some Middle Eastern authors write in English, so I believe there are great options out there. I’d also love for the books to be genuinely interesting and enjoyable to read.
