I'm looking for well written books (no undercomplex good vs. bad characters; depth) that are grounded in REAL historical events (e.g. Ancient Egypt, Rome, medieval ages) that have elements of mythology which is not totally new but grounded in our culture (e.g. greek gods).
Preferredly something epic with several story lines. Think Game of Thrones but in the reals world…
Any ideas?

The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman is light fantasy and it’s Arthurian lore based; but I was surprised with the fact he wove in unexpected historical events and context to it that made the story more grounded in life.
