I'm looking to get into reading so that I have something to do which doesn't consist of staring at a screen. My attention span is pretty bad, and I've tried to finish a few books (of which I've only finished one). I thought the easiest would be a book that is easy to read in a genre I'm actually interested in, at least when it comes to movies. I think sci-fi or fantasy would be kind of my thing. Does anyone have any recommendations for an immersive sci-fi or fantasy series or book and is easy to read at the same time? I've heard that books like LOTR, while having amazing world building (apparently), are notorious for being a bit of a slog to get through for new readers because of his style of writing.
Thank you!

Kings of the Wyld–Nicholas Eames is similar in ways to the world of LOTR but was much easier to read imo.
Have you tried The Count of Monte Cristo?

Red Rising. Amazing series and, while very well written, also very easy to read. It’s nowhere near the difficulty of Tolkien and others. It’s also fast moving and full of action.
I’d try the Murderbot series. Fun reads
Animal farm is a good choice it was my first book
it’s only around 100 pages and each page makes you want to read more
Dark Matter is a very good choice too because the mystery forces you to keep reading and reading
I find John Scalzi everything pretty easy to read, while painting a new world quickly. I just finished Kaiju Preservation Society – it was fast paced, lots of dialogue, entertaining (as all his novels are)… seems to check some of your boxes.
My go-to is always Ender’s Game for sci-fi. Got me out of a multi-year reading slump. It is a series as well, if you decide you like it. Very immersive, but easy to read IMO.
But, the REAL answer to this question is always **~*~ Dungeon Crawler Carl ~*~**
I can’t say enough good things about this series. The world is 10/10 – unique, distinct, layered, varied. The character development is primo. The humor is SO GOOD. Everything about it is a delight.
I know it’s become Reddit’s go-to recommendation… but it’s not without reason.
