Going on a car trip this weekend and I need an audiobook suggestion!
My husband is not a reader, but usually will enjoy an audiobook on a long car ride. I've been trying to find an audiobook that he will like, but also will be mostly appropriate if our 6 year old starts tuning in.
He has liked in the past:
Project Hail Mary
Colony One Mars (series)
Facing the Mountain
Sunrise on the Reaping
1984
Lone Survivor
I'm a voracious reader so I don't really care and assume I'll like anything. Mostly going for his interests and not giving our son bad dreams.

Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy – there are a few versions but I’d recommend the BBC one with multiple voice actors and extra sound effects and such. Makes it more fun for the kids and (I think) generally a safe story for them
The Wild Robot (three book series) is geared towards kids, but I think he could enjoy it along with your son.
If nonfiction is in play I really enjoy all of Bill Bryson’s books on audio, and it’s often fun to listen to something travel-oriented while on the road!
Maybe some humor.
Non-fiction **What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions** by Randall Munroe narrated by Wil Wheaton.
It consists of a series of questions on pop-sci and pop-culture, each answered in one or two paragraphs. The answers are hilarious in a dry-humored way.
An example question is: What would happen if you hit a baseball pitched at 90% of the speed of light?
