I love the sense of place a good long series can provide. Great example for me is Upfield's Bony books, set in 30s-50s Australia. One of my favorites.

I've read a ton of them. Spenser, T. McGee, Archer, Robichaux, Elvis Cole, Ed BcBain's, Reacher, so so many. My mind goes blank. Just finished Bruno Chief of Police. Now I want to live in France.

If you kind folks would just start listing your faves, willy nilly. I'll paw through them for ones I haven't read. Thanking you!

J.D Robb’s “…in Death” series. Set in 2050s New York, there are about 60 books in the series.

Candice Fox, Crimson Lake series, there are 3 books. Set in Aussie. An ex-detective and PI team up. Very very good. Quirky PI, she’s brilliant, set in Queensland. There are 7 geese too…

    5. Babylon Berlin by Volker Kutscher.

Detective is a WW1 vet in Berlin during the roaring 20’s.

      Also a Netflix series.

L.R. Wright series; Karl Alburg main character in the seies beginning with The Suspect. Set in Canada’s Sunshine Coast, though, not France, sorry!

    7. The Leaphorn and Chee novels by Tony Hillerman. Unique series set on the Navajo reservation.

    8. I recently read several Raymond Chandler novels. Also some shorter novellas. Takes place in the 30’s but you don’t really notice. Definitely LA Noir.

Oh, there are so many! Rather than wracking my brain for many dozens of authors and their detectives, how about sharing a little more about what you’re looking for (fast easy reading like Reacher? modern times or historical settings? different places like Bruno? cultural like native american?) If you narrow it down, I’ll try to give you a few good ideas.

One of my favorites is the Bosch series by Michael Connolly. He’s a very good author and his Novels are set mainly in the Los Angeles area. The Prime tv series is pretty good too and I like Titus Welever for the roll but I haven’t seen them all.
