Hello! This is a request for suggestions for my partner, not myself. I don’t read anything in the crime genres (fiction or non-fiction) so I wouldn’t know what to recommend!
My partner is looking for a “gritty British crime drama.” For context, his favourite films are Layercake and The Gentlemen (anything by Guy Ritchie actually!), and he is now obsessed with that show Mobland.
He is not picky about fiction vs non-fiction, so happy to have recommendations for either.

The Red Riding Quartet by David Peace, beginning with Nineteen Seventy Four
***The Long Firm trilogy*** by *Jake Arnott* follows the life of east end gangster Harry Starks from the sixties through to the 90s.
**Layer Cake** (the film does follow the plot of the book very closely) and its sequel **Viva La Madness** by *J. J. Connolly*.
