Context (but you can skip to the question if you don’t want to read): My gf gifted to me a “read with me” coupon for Christmas for any book of my choosing. Admittedly, I haven’t read anything new in a while and am out of touch with what’s out there as far as books and authors, so I am wanting to branch out a little. We both enjoy historical fiction, however I enjoy romance and things a little steamier, whereas she prefers books that are plot driven not by the relationship/romance aspect, but she is okay with some romance as long as it’s not the overall genre.
Question: What are some historical fiction books with lesbian themes that don’t centralize around the relationship, but is still important to the book, however has a bigger overall plot? Preferably one without any major deaths and preferably not fantasy, if possible.
Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions ❤️

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters is exactly this, although there are a few character deaths.
