    1. Roald Dahl books, short books and at least one is short stories instead of one whole story.
His books are perfect for debuting in my opinion

Do you know the child’s reading level? There are books marked with reading levels that would really start to build the kid’s confidence once they complete full books.

    4. The Horrid Henry books are good for that age group. My son ate them up from 5 to 9 or so. Each book is a collection of short stories, which makes them even easier to get through.

The one thing to keep in mind is that everyone in that book is awful, kids, parents and teachers. They’re not role models, but that’s where the humour is. As long as your kid can understand that, they’re really funny.

Another one that is similar (short stories, silly humour, but not awful people) is the Mrs. Pepperpot book series. There’s a lot of them, usually found in a blue and a red compilation in the English speaking world. I’ve come across them a few times in charity shops.

Magic Tree House – great intro to chapter books and there are a variety of interests represented

Reading level and interests would help give an idea as to better suggestions. Also, long books are great to read back and forth, you read a chapter or a page then she reads.

Are siblings willing to read with her? Same thought as reading back and forth with you, but kids often learn better with other kids.

365 Bedtime Stories is an oldie but good one. Each “story” is just one page, but they all build on the previous ones.
