Was a big fan of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson” franchise and Michael Grant’s “Gone” series in middle school.
I’m looking for something similar, but aged up. I want a series, with a diverse and memorable ensemble of characters (bonus if any Latino characters) with science fiction or paranormal/fantasy elements, with a good amount of romance and humor, strong friendships between the characters. I don’t mind darker themes or horror related elements. Would prefer if the characters were younger adults, like 20 somethings/early 30 somethings. Ideally a contemporary, American setting, but high fantasy and historic fiction are my primary genres so I don’t mind historic or fantasy settings either.
I’m currently reading the poppy war, which is hitting some of my requirements, but still borders on YA and I’m curious about what else is out there that would be more suited for a 24 year old.

The Tainted Cup is a mystery book with fantasy and is one of my favorite books. The main character is not a teenager and the detective is a hilarious old woman.
