I write adult WWII fiction myself, mostly focused on front-line soldiers and the U.S. Army Rangers, so it’s definitely not geared toward younger readers. But for 10-year-olds who are curious about WWII, I’d recommend something like *Number the Stars* by Lois Lowry — it offers a powerful perspective on the war through the eyes of a young girl, without being too graphic.

*The War That Saved My Life* by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley is another great one — it touches on evacuation, disability, and resilience during the Blitz, and is very accessible for that age group.

Both give a strong sense of history in an age-appropriate way.

It’s not non-fiction, but it’s excellently researched: The Guests of War trilogy by Kit Pearson (The Sky is Falling, Looking at the Moon, The Lights Go On Again). It follows the story of two English children sent to Canada for the duration of WWII.

there was a young adult programme that the BBC had in the 80’s which they brought out an accompanying book for schools called the machine gunners set in wartime Northumberland i remember loving it at that age

    4. Semi autobiographical book called When Hitler stole the pink rabbit. I remember reading this when I was around 8, nearly 9 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was pretty obsessed with WW2 around that age also.
