Back in the day, I really enjoyed The Princess Bride. I’m no longer a fantasy reader, but maybe something somewhat reminiscent of this one’s storytelling style and humour would be wonderful.
Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather – discovered this gem through recommendations here actually and was pleasantly surprised; loved the imagery in Cather’s writing. Not necessarily looking for anything similar to this other than a beautiful, flowing style.
Something like Michael Crichton’s work? I loved Michael Crichton growing up. Mainly, I loved his ideas. I’m not a horror reader (not my genre, so if it’s gruesome, that’s not what I’m looking for), so not looking for that, but possibly an author who is maybe comparable to Crichton in terms of ideas/theories presented in their writing combined with the adventure of the story itself. His stories were all so cinematic, and it doesn’t surprise me since most were turned into movies.
And I love the ocean, and wouldn’t mind a great sea adventure/surfing tale with lovely writing. I’ve been thinking maybe Jacques Cousteau might have written something….
I love reading and love new authors to discover. Anyway, would love recommendations reminiscent of these in some way! Thank you!
