I finished How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix and I found myself really entranced by the protagonist’s messy relationship with her brother. It wasn’t, “We’re siblings. Let’s stop fighting and love each other.” It acknowledged blood doesn’t equate love, but also that siblinghood often comes with this invisible string stemming from growing up together and having on-again-off-again friendships with each other.

I wanted my sibling to read it because it mirrored our own relationship in ways, but the problem is… they hate horror! It’s the one genre they hate, and romance is the one genre I hate. It doesn’t really matter to me if the two siblings end up as happy friends in the end, just as long as the two siblings are both written with humanity and there’s no “bad guy.”

    TIA!
