    1. What are you interested in? Generally, you’ll enjoy nonfiction more if it’s on a topic you find interesting. 

      I don’t have much advice for poetry, unfortunately. I was in a similar position to you and I ended up taking a poetry analysis class to get over my issues. I think spoken word is one of the more accessible form of poetry, though. Maybe try listening to some spoken word poetry first, then going back and reading it

      Poetry is often about evoking imagery and emotions in a unique and less straightforward way. Usually the format enhances this, so learning about the structure of poetry (rhyme schemes and styles) can help with the enjoyment and understanding of it.
