one of my favourite books is “Little women” by Louisa May Alcott. it always gives me hope. i want something similar, a book which has bad things happening to its hero(es) but they don’t lose hope, remain graceful, and still have happy moments despite their hardships. with a happy ending, please. bonus points if it’s classic and has FMC (not required). thank you

Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Cheng is very good.
Well here are three of my favs which are very different from each other but all share the theme of smiling during hard times.
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens
Voyage to the Bunny Planet by Rosemary Wells. This is a children’s book but manages to capture a bit of profound magic about escaping from your troubles.
Anybody’s Can Do Anything by Betty MacDonald. A biographical account of the author, newly divorced, moving in with her mom and sister during the Great Depression. Her sister gets Betty a series of comically awful jobs, and the family manages to have fun in spite of having almost no money.
Starlight by ML Briggs
It’s not a classic but it’s all about overcoming hardships and trying to find hope, which seems always just out of grasp
Look at *An Old Fashioned Girl* by Alcott
*The Color Purple*
*A Tree Grows in Brooklyn*
A Peasant Farmer’s Psalm by Felix Timmermans (1935)
It’s about a poor farmer who reflects on his life full of hardships, but also feels a very strong love for his existence as a farmer. The very first sentence of the book pretty much summarises this sentiment:
>I am just a poor farmer and although I have known a lot of misery, a farmer’s life is the most beautiful life there is.
