Not necessarily a book. Sorry!
I work at a hospital and patients occasionally ask if we have any reading material. I’d love to make a collection of short stories and poems that I can make copies of (disposable, for sanitation purposes) and I want to hear your suggestions!
Would prefer nothing too sad/death focused, since, well— they’re in a hospital. Also nothing more than a few pages, if possible (so I was thinking mostly poetry?)
I read mostly horror so I am a bit out of my element here haha
Appreciate any help!

Philipp Schott is a Canadian vet and has a nonfiction vet short stories series about the animals he meets. The Accidental Veterinarian is the first book and the following ones all have similar covers. They’re more like snippets since the book is small and so the stories are short. There is some death mention on some sadder animal stories but most of the stories are heartwarming and fun.
The Chicken Soup series
Honestly, I’d see if you can find some boxes of Readers Digest at a yard sale or charity shop. They have lots of short articles, some jokes and usually a longer excerpt.
Why? I’m old. I read mostly SFF and I read a book a day. I’ve been disappointed in hospital offerings. Mags mostly, ugh. Very few novels and I for sure bring a heap with me, on my ph (Kindle app).
Poems….yuk.
