The first Don Winslow book I read was “City on Fire” and I immediately had to read the other two, which were just as enthralling and thrilling. Detailed and highly researched. Very cinematic but I worry the films that are coming up, being described as Austin Butler vehicles, aren’t going to live up to the books.
Also, “The Force”, a book about an intensely flawed NYPD is one of the most affecting books I’ve ever read in my entire life. It haunts me and I find myself thinking about it often.
He often gets dismissed as a simple “thriller writer”, but I truly believe his rough and tough prose is very high-level writing and that he should be considered literature.

I’ve read about half a dozen of his books and they are great.
