    1. The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio.

Quick Blurb: Florence, Italy, 1348 — the Black Plague is raging across Europe, killing thousands with no end in sight. As you can probably imagine, life back then was depressing as hell so to escape from the doom and gloom of it all, Giovanni Boccaccio (the author of the book) along with seven young women and three young men, came up with a rather interesting idea. They rent a quiet villa in the countryside and over the course of ten days, each of them will tell a story. Ten days, ten stories, one hundred stories in total based on a theme chosen by whoever is made king or queen for the day, all the while they are also singing songs, drinking and just living in blissful ignorance of all that is outside their walls.

The stories are best experienced without spoilers, so I won’t say much. But I will say they’re surprisingly funny and shockingly raunchy. Many poke fun at sex, religion, and other taboo topics without holding back. Most of them, with a few exceptions, also have happy endings that don’t feel forced.
