I'm currently reading A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas and, despite its flaws, I'm really loving it. As someone with depression and C-PTSD, I find Nesta to be a really relatable character. I see myself in her self-sabotage, her prickliness used as a shield, her (albeit unhealthy) coping mechanisms to block out memories/unwanted thoughts.
Watching her confront her inner demons and go on a journey to self-love, acceptance of love (both platonic and romantic), and making female friendships/found family is making me want to find books with similar themes.
So what recs do you have for me?
Other books I've read and loved with similar themes have been the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore (Fire is my favorite). As a kid, I really loved Harry Potter for its focus on found family as well.
As you can probably tell, I tend to read a lot of fantasy but I'm open to any genre. Thanks in advance!
