Hi! obviously I'm looking for some good novels recommendations, something with a very compelling plot that keeps you glued to the pages. Something that also has strong and interesting characters, maybe a developing romance with some angst along the way (no smut).
Maybe scifi, maybe fantasy, maybe a thriller/investigative?
for reference, I've just read "this is how you lose the time war" and, while e liked it, I was a little disappointed about the lack of character development and plot (beside the random missions that I didn't really care about, an actual plot started like 40 pages to the end).
Let me know if something comes to mind!

If We Were Villians by M.L. Rio is a mystery/dark academia I absolutely loved. A big part of that was how invested I was in the characters.
VorKosigan Saga, a series of sci-fi books centered on stubborn characters that shape a galaxy of colonies held together by a natural worm-hole network and constantly changing technologies. Most of the plots involve investigations, some light romance and a few battles.
Thursday Next series, a series that centers on a female action hero that seems to encounter problems from every fiction genre possible.
Rise and Fall Of D.O.D.O., a novel about the people trying to revive the magic and time travel that disappeared as technology progressed with new, more progressive technology.
Singularity Sky, the beginnings of a series about a galaxy reshaped by AI with clear instructions to the populations it rehomed to avoid time-travel at all cost.
