As summer approaches, I’m looking for your must read books for a 6 year old girl. She’s reading at close to a 4th grade level.
She’s really into Little House on the Prairie, which is our current bedtime story. She loves Junie B Jones, Itty Bitty Princess Kitty, and Magic Tree House (on occasion). She devours anything she touches.
I’m open to anything- classics, non-fiction, chapter books.
It’s tough to find age appropriate books that are challenging for her.
Thank you!

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (really anything by Carson but Ella Enchanted is my favorite)
Anne of Green Gables
Anything by Sharon Creech
Some older ones that have held up, my 4yo boy is loving them currently (we listen to audio or I read to him, they are chapter books on the level you’re describing):
The Doll People by Ann M. Martin. Sort of a toy story vibe, the dolls move and talk when no one is around. There’s a 100-year-old family of porcelain dolls, then a new plastic doll family arrives. They have adventures and search for the porcelain Auntie Doll who went missing decades ago.
The Great Good Thing by Roderick Townley. This just got a new cover for its 25th anniversary! It’s about a storybook princess and you see how they live in the book, like they have to run to the right page when the book opens and get splatted when someone drips jelly on the page. When something bad happens to the book, they escape into the mind of a reader and have to find a way to keep their story alive.
Both books have several sequels, but the first books are the strongest in my opinion and can be read as standalones.
