The Dungeon Crawler Carl series is about a bunch of humans trapped in a rpg style dungeon crawl for the galaxies entertainment, and coming together to form a tight knit group who support each other.
The Richard Jury series follows an orphaned Scotland Yard detective and his close knit circle of friends who are as important to him as family.

I just started a great audiobook yesterday where the story is set in the late 1700’s that fits this request. I picked it up recently as a sale title and I’m glad I did.
“The Kitchen House” by Kathleen Grissom. First person. It’s bittersweet in the early chapters but I’m looking forward to the remainder.
