Are there any novels that deal with an apocalypse in it’s (near) entirety as opposed to most post-apocalyptic books where a short initial period deals with the world coming to an end but then the fast remainder is spent on the world that is left behind or jumps far into the future?

The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin (The Passage, The Twelve, The City of Mirrors).
A U.S. government/military experiment with an ancient virus goes awry and turns into a massive catastrophe. It’s immersive with great characters, multiple POVs and timelines, solid world building, and an amazing and satisfying story arc. It also covers the downfall in significant detail in one way or another in all three books. It’s a 2000-page epic masterpiece.

“When Worlds Collide”. The plot goes through discovering the apocalyptic event, preparing, and dealing with it
